First-hand functional components

The innovative vigour of Toolcraft is manifested in the continual investment in new technologies. Therefore the company expanded its product portfolio with laser-melted precision-engineered components in the year 2011. The benefits of this innovative method are evident: manufacturing of complex geometries, processing difficult-to-machine materials as well as the production of precision parts with considerable time savings and less material wastage.
Versatile materials – now Invar 1.3912
Metal laser melting, in combination with proven core competencies like turning and milling of difficult-to-machine materials, provides crucial benefits. For this reason Toolcraft improves the technology continuously and expands its production capacities. When selecting the right material for metal laser melting, the company matches its material and manufacturing expertise to the requirements of its customers. Toolcraft process nickel-based alloys, such as Inconel 718 and Inconel 625, as well as high-grade and tool steels, such as 1.4404, 17-4PH and 1.2709. Since this year the company is able to process the icon-nickel alloy invar 1.3912 – a material with a very low linear thermal expansion coefficient, which is used in the semiconductors, the defence and space sector as well as the composite manufacturing.
Metal laser melting – make even the impossible possible
Here the workpiece is built up layer by layer, as the material concerned is melted on it in powdered form by means of laser radiation. For manufacturing the components, the design data are divided up into cross-sections. These are then built up in layers during the melting process, thus creating the component in a 3D effect. The resulting quality is convincing and meets even the high requirements in aerospace. For the aviation sector, we manufacture housing sections and complex, thin-walled structures for gas turbines.
Innovative technology for almost every industry
In the field of motor sports, we manufacture preproduction and small series in the development stage, such as engine and pump components or structural parts. We also offer components made from high temperature-resistant materials, for installation in exhaust systems. Thanks to the metal laser melting process, it is possible to produce adjustable pins with an integrated cooling feature. Large cooling surfaces ensure ideal heat transfer, less distortion and fewer cavities a reduction of wastage rate. Shorter cycle times save a lot of costs.
Further investment in Machine Park
Furthermore measuring and testing of end products is an essential aspect. The quality can be quickly and reliably verified by the new system for non-destructive surface testing. The precision parts and high-tech components are wetted with a fluorescent penetrant for this purpose, thereby making even the smallest cracks visible under UVA light. To meet the requirements of its customers even more effectively, Toolcraft extended its machine park by another M1 cusing laser melting machine from Concept Laser – in the meantime the fourth machine.
